"Deep Inside the Sacred Temple" From The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet; arr. Norman F. Rowe
This arrangement was inspired by the wonderful recording by Robert and Nicholas Childs on their album entitled "Childs Play" which included an abridged version of this piece. It was necessitated by the apparent unavailability a published version of that or any other arrangement of the piece. This arrangement includes the entire duet.
In the opera, this piece appears as a duet for tenor and baritone. The solo parts are provided in two versions:
- parts 1 and 2 where part 1 has the tenor voice line and part 2 has the baritone voice line the entire time;
- parts A and B where approximately halfway through the voices change parts allowing each instrumentalist equal time on the top part.
It can be played by two euphoniums, two tubas, or one of each. Of course, trombone(s) and/or baritone(s) may also be used. If it is played as a trombone-euphonium duet, it is recommended that the trombone play part 1 and the euphonium play part 2; if it is played as a trombone/tuba or euphonium-tuba duet, it is recommended that the trombone or euphonium play part 1 and the tuba play part 2. If possible, the tuba player should play it in the original range (using the Euphonium 2 part). All euphonium parts are provided in both bass and transposed treble clef versions.
Instrumentation: Duet parts, Eb cornet, Bb Cornets 1-2-3-Repiano, Flugelhorn, Eb Tenorhorns S-1-2, Bb Tenorhorns 1-2, Trombones 1-2, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Eb Tuba, Bb Tuba, Timpani, Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Cymbals.
